UPDATE 9/10/2017: Since our last update, Danielle Dennard has been appointed as the new ASB Secretary and Hanna Gonzalez has joined as a second ASB Publicist.
UPDATE 9/1/2017: Since publishing this article on print, Zaid Shaikh has stepped down as ASB President. In accordance with the ASB Constitution, Joseph Fortuno will become ASB President. Ciara Cipponeri has been appointed Vice President.
As the fall semester commences, Cogswell Associated Student Body (ASB)’s new Executive Board members begin to serve their term in office. Familiar faces will continue to take part in ASB’s leadership.
Kalyn Farmer is excited to spend a second, consecutive year as the ASB Treasurer, stating: “I finally have a system down and I feel like I have established connections with the club’s treasurers.”
While veteran officers remain on the team, the Executive Board will also have some fresh faces on deck. Paola Valenzuela will be serving as the ASB Publicist, a new position on the team. The Publicist role combines the previous duties of Historian and Social Media Chair. “It’s a lot of fun,” Valenzuela says. “It pushed me to go out of my comfort zone and I’ve met lots of people.”
They also promise upcoming events designed to thrill Cogswell’s student body. About upcoming ASB events, Alex Doyle, one of the new Events Coordinators, says “It’s a really cool process to be a part of, and I would never have pulled anything off without my team.” As their events reach new heights, the team will require not one, but two Event Coordinators on deck. Joining Alex is Connor Anderson, who has previously served a term as ASB Associate
Leading the Executive Board are President Joseph Fortuno and Vice President Ciara Cipponeri. Joseph previously served as the Social Media Chair for two semesters and Vice President last summer, while Ciara served as the Secretary the same semester. “We’re taking ASB towards a new direction,” says Vice President Fortuno: “we want bigger, more exciting events for our fellow students, and we have some good ideas.”
The creation of a new Executive Board dovetails with the introduction of a new ASB Advisor. Gisi Thompson, Cogswell’s recently hired Student Services Coordinator.
The ASB Constitution will be going through some changes as well. President Fortuno says,“The changes we made to the Constitution were put in place to clarify and strengthen many aspects, from Executive Board responsibilities to club standards.”
In light of Cipponeri taking on the role of Vice President, Danielle Dennard has been appointed as the new ASB Secretary, having served as the Secretary for the Cogswell Collective for two semesters. Hanna Gonzalez, the new President of The Cogswell Chronicle, has also joined Paola Valenzuela as the second ASB Publicist.
"ASB will continue to be amazing," President Fortuno says, "since last summer, our Executive Board has been working hard to redefine what ASB is to Cogswell. We have some exciting things planned and can't wait for our fellow students to see them in action."
As the Executive Board begins to serve their term, they will also start their search for students interested in joining as ASB Associates. These members will be working with select Executive Board members to plan and implement ASB activities throughout the semester.
