Welcome to Cogswell College, where everything is orange and our mascot is the Hulk (just kidding, it’s a dragon). Take a nice look around our smaller-than-normal campus but don't freak out! Here are some tips, tricks, and informative facts about good ol’ Cogswell College.
1. There are so many computer labs on campus.
You probably need them for one, or all, of your classes, right? The Silver Monkey Lab has almost every program you’ll need. And there’s free printing. FREE PRINTING.If iMac’s your name, then the iMac Lab is your game. (If you’re rendering a project on a Mac, this lab is the fastest, btw).
2. Good luck finding a quiet place to study without our help.
The Whisper Room and the giant oak tables, which are located near the front lobby, are a good start. If these aren’t working out for you, try the Library or the ASB room, which are open to all students when available.
Or, you know... bring your earphones.
3. Counselors are friends, not food.
Don’t be 2 cool 4 skool. Give them a chance and just talk to them. They can make sure you sign up for the classes you need, and you might walk away with some great advice.
4. The VTA is pretty awesome and FREE!
Student Life provides free Clipper Cards to use on the nearby VTA and AC Transit Buses. You can go to the mall, theater, downtown, or to-and-from school.
5. Parking is not as bad as it seems.
Some people dread parking at school. Here’s how to get around the lack of spots:
the crack of dawn to 9am- prime parking hour
9-12:30pm - hectic
12:30-1:30pm - terrible
1:30-4:45 - everyone is in class
After 4:45 - traffic, but everyone leaves
Word of advice: Do not park anywhere but the Cogswell parking lot. You will get towed anywhere else.
6. The school may or may not be haunted…
When walking around campus, you may hear the beautiful piano songs coming from the lobby. But when you try to figure out who is playing, there is never anyone there ...or anywhere.
Girls, if you like horror films, check out the bathrooms next to the Dragon's Den.
7. Food might be the most important thing about life.
If you forgot your lunch at home, don’t worry. There are vending machines on campus that have a wide variety of quick snacks and drinks. They even installed two fancy fridges with healthier options (and higher prices (if you’re lucky, you might catch one of the random sales)).
The food truck, with our friend “Dan the Man”, comes to campus every weekday from around noon to 2:00 pm. He’s the homie if you like good food for around $5.
8. The AV Lab has what you didn’t know you needed.
Need something specific for your art or audio classes? They can supply equipment that students can check out (it’s the small closet near the audio production studios). Access to the AV should save you money, but it won’t if you rack up hella late fees.
9. Are you bored? Yes.
Outside of your academic life, you might find yourself lacking in social activities. I have some ideas-
Cogswell Clubs - There's a lot of them.
10. Nothing is impossible, like finding forks.
Yes, there are forks for student use in the Dragon’s Den. One of the drawers next to the sink will have these mythic forks, and even some random sauce and pepper packets.
Or, you know... just remember to bring your own forks.
Remember- time your parking habits, enjoy free movies, and stay away from the haunted bathroom.
