Last November, Cogswell’s President & Chief Academic Officer Brian Shepard notified students via email about renaming two departments. Digital Audio Technology (DAT) has now become Audio and Music Technology (AMT) and the Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) has become Business, Entrepreneurship, and Innovation (BEI).
“As we continue to develop and grow our programs at Cogswell,” says Dr. Shepard in the message, “we need to rename a couple of our academic departments to better describe their offerings and to increase their marketability. “ The Graduate Program, Master of Arts in Entrepreneurship and Innovation, is housed under BEI Department, along with the Undergraduate Program, BBA, and its concentrations.
The notification about the changes in Department names was received by students early November but was drafted in September of this year. Dr. Shepard apologizes for the oversight and confusion and noted that the changes in names are only for Departments, and Degree Programs will still be listed on diplomas and transcripts exactly as they were.
“Since the current BBA courses are all listed with a “BUS” prefix, there won’t be any issues with course names,” says Dr. Shepard in the notification. “For now, we will cross-list the DAT courses with an AMT equivalent until the current DAT students have graduated.” Current DAT students will continue to have “DAT” on their transcript, while new students will have “AMT.”
Earlier that week, Dr. Shepard also sent a notification that Cogswell will begin a national search for a new director of AMT as current Director Dr. Timothy Duncan has announced a return to full-time teaching. “Even as he returns to full-time teaching, we will, no doubt, continue to rely on his expertise and experience from his time as Director,” says Dr. Shepard about the announcement. Dr. Bobbi Makani will continue to be the Director of the BEI program.
