Hey sis, it’s Christmas!
All is merry and bright in the werk room as RuPaul announced that the iconic, hit VH1-show, RuPaul’s Drag Race, will have a spin-off Holiday special this winter! The one-off competitive episode, RuPaul’s Drag Race Holi-Slay Spectacular will air on December 7 to crown America’s first “Drag Race Xmas Queen.”
Please God, make it stop. After a seemingly universal backlash from the fans, Mother Ru is still trying to force us to like this Eureka narrative. At this point, we don’t know what else Eureka can offer. We’ve had it. Officially!
7. JASMINE MASTERS
Well, pop the cord and feed the children! We have a lot of things to say about Jasmine Masters, but we don’t think this is her time to shine. After all, one week later, we get to see more of her on the other Drag Race spin-off, All Stars 4.
6. LATRICE ROYALE
Speaking of All Stars 4, we have another queen who will be sticking around our screens for a while. Much like Bebe Zahara Benet in All Stars 3, it looks like RuPaul is throwing another curveball by putting in Latrice Royale and Manila Luzon (#Latrilla) back into the ring. In all fairness, All Stars 1 was a completely different show with a horrible format, so Latrice and Manila deserve this comeback. It’s a good thing we get to preview her triumphant return on Holi-Slay, but it probably also isn’t her time.
Sonique hasn’t been in Drag Race since Season 2 but has been a prominent member and voice for the trans community when it comes to the drag industry. It’s about damn time RuPaul became more inclusive and recognize trans excellence in the industry. That said, it’s been a while since we saw Sonique, and judging by what’s happened when queens from earlier seasons come back to compete, Sonique will be a coin toss.
4. TRIXIE MATTEL
Does she need another crown? I dunno. But then again, she does have a crown, so she has some sort of advantage, right? Honestly, I’m not sure. Whatever the right answer is, just give me more Tracy Martel.
3. MAYHEM MILLER
Mayhem Miller is a legendary name in the drag industry and has been prominent way before her Drag Race run. She deserves another chance. Mayhem will be on All Stars one day, but for now, this will have to do. I know she has tricks up her sleeve! Just watch.
2. KIM CHI
Kim Chi is a fan favorite for a reason! It looks like she’s not in for an All Stars run yet, but we’re super excited to see Kim back for the holidays! This season is extravagant and festive, which is exactly the kind of environment Kim Chi needs to snatch the crown.
I can never be tired of Shangela coming back, but I am too damn tired of watching her come back and not be crowned. I could sit here and write about how RuPaul owes this woman a crown because this is her fourth time competing, but it’s not about that. Shangela doesn’t deserve a hand out crown because she’s earned a real one. Just this year, she had fantastic achievements, including making headlines for starring with Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper in A Star is Born and voicing the drag superhero Scarlett in Super Drags. That’s in addition to her triumphant return in All Stars 3, where she declared herself as “Shangela Stormborn.”
Trixie’s victory in All Stars 3 left a sour taste in many fans’ mouth and many rooted for Shangela to win that season, given that she had the best track record in the finale. Many even think that this whole holiday special was made just to crown Shangela. Regardless, the Daenerys Targaryen of Drag is back, and she’s coming for blood. RuPaul’s Drag Race Holi-Slay Spectacular is her Westeros, and she’s taking what’s rightfully hers.
RuPaul’s Drag Race Holi-Slay Spectacular airs Friday, December 7, at 8/7 c on VH1.
